The Federal FCLCA law requires Rx issuance and verification as part of out-of-office contact lens retail transactions. But the vision care space lacks an efficient method to comply with those mandates…until now!
EyeScripts is the ANSWER! We designed EyeScripts to create, register, capture patients’ signatures at prescription release, securely store pertinent data from 50,000+ ECPs and ECP accounts, and log all retail transactions, all while instantly processing verification requests by in-system retailers.
EyeScripts is a well-thought through system design that helps all participants in the value chain operate more efficiently and easily within FCLCA mandates.
The current prescription management system is cumbersome, disjointed, and incapable of cost effectively meeting the existing and new requirements of FCLCA and the recent Rule update. Handwritten CL and spectacle prescriptions remain the norm and instant Rx verification is non-existent. CL patients are in increasing numbers buying CLs either online [from 1-800 CONTACTS, Coastal Contacts and others] or from retailers such as WalMart or Costco. These 3rd party retailers must then verify prescriptions by reverting back to the issuing Eye Care Professional [ECP] in order to comply with Federal law. Current verification requests are made typically by telephone or fax.
The current verification model results in great system inefficiencies, higher costs, prescription errors, wasted time and increased stress among ECPs and their staffs. The lag between verification request and response can be hours or days, and confidential patient information has at times been misdirected. Moreover, the system engenders a high rate of invalid prescriptions presented for passive verification. In one recent study, an amazing 52% of all prescriptions submitted for fulfillment were found to be invalid, either due to expiry or to misspecification in key Rx parameters. Additionally, the current model blocks CL manufacturers’ view of over 30%+ of market activity, thereby making certain expense decisions less optimum.
EyeScripts captures a 360-degree market view of the contact lens retail space and thereby captures vital data that can reduce costs (such as rationalizing diagnostic kits), improve efficiencies and yield otherwise hidden market patterns.
A consequence of the FCLCA release mandate is that the prescription chain of custody is significantly weakened, thereby obscuring a large percentage of the vision care market 3rd party retail space.
But as EyeScripts is integrated throughout the value proposition of contact lens prescription issuance and retail sales, it captures data throughout the transaction cycle. These HIPAA-compliant data can be fully aggregated or disaggregated to yield remarkable insights into otherwise hidden market dynamics, and are thereby significant and valuable to the contact lens manufacturing base as it seeks to improve efficiencies, streamline marketing and reduce costs.
EyeScripts’ protocols are designed to be compatible with all currently available EMR systems and CL prescription management platforms, including:
Moreover, EyeScripts is designed to be fully-responsive and compatible with all iOS and Android devices for optimum portability and interconnectivity.
With the EyeScripts’ system, ECP’s can easily be fully-compliant with all FCLCA requirements for Rx issuance, patient signature and data archive management, as well as being able to manage all necessary office functions…all through one highly-intuitive interface.
EyeScripts provides patients with a secure, FAST and highly-intuitive platform to order contact lenses, and to manage all prescription related documents and information.
EyeScripts enables merchants to obtain INSTANT FCLCA compliant verification during the retail transaction…not hours or days later!
Satisfies all FCLCA elements and fully complies with all other Federal and State laws, as well as with HIPAA requirements.
ECPs, patients, retailers and manufacturers, will have secure and reliable access to all relevant functions via our intuitive apps
Retail transactions speed from hours or days to seconds. No more robocalls, dropped sales or hefty FTC fines!
Regulatory authority monitoring for compliance all while safeguarding patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
EyeScripts’ data capture will greatly reduce or eliminate the ~30% market blind spot confronting manufacturers.
Patient signature capture and 10- year archive removes the burden from ECPs.
The EyeScripts team includes leading experts from the fields of optometry, CIT and business who recognized the need to (a) modernize prescription management techniques in vision care, while (b) eliminating market blind spots resulting from CL prescription release. To that end, we have built and tested a patented, highly-secured cloud-based prescription management prototype to create, register, access, and verify contact lens prescriptions instantly, in full compliance with the FCLCA Rule, HIPAA and other relevant Federal, State and local laws.
“Our goal is to make EyeScripts the standard for prescription management in the vision care space, and end the range of FCLCA compliance problems the field confronts daily.”
“EyeScripts represents a very practical solution to one of the eye care community’s current and most vexing problem: prescription release and verification.”
“The EyeScripts approach not only resolves many of FCLCA’s more vexing problems for ECPs, but many direct and indirect problems it causes for retailers, manufacturers and patients.”
